'putting a center point in infinity

Installation

This installation employs fortune rods, microcontrollers, and sensors to explore the concept of a "center point in infinity." Each machine reacts to its surroundings with a vibration sensor, microphone, speaker, and motor. The "center" symbolizes shifting perspectives, geopolitical relationships, and historical contexts, such as maps reflecting cultural biases by placing the creators' region at the center. While humanity once viewed the Earth as the universe's center, heliocentric theory and the infinite universe revealed no true center, affecting perceptions of existence. The project incorporates dowsing—a pseudoscientific technique using rods to locate hidden resources. Inspired by Moses’ rod in biblical texts, the installation uses microphones and sensors to simulate the rod's "intention." This evokes questions about central ideas, morality, and judgment, which are influenced by temporal and spatial scales. By delegating judgment to non-human systems, the installation challenges relativism and explores whether true objectivity is possible in an infinite, decentralized world.
